The simple life

On the second Friday of every month, George and I attend the local Methodist church's spaghetti supper. It is a dinner that they prepare in order to raise money. Their budget is so tight that they were being threatened with not being able to pay for a pastor, even part time, and maybe closing, so they have these suppers to raise funds. It is a simple dinner in the church basement and we really enjoy going. They serve spaghetti, two kinds of home-made sauce, salad, bread and butter and cake or dessert. The cost is $6.00. We donate more. The food is good, and we sit and converse about our day, or meet others at the table if we share the space.

It is a simple thing to do. We laughingly call it our "big night out". I'm always happy to be there, and I'm happy to have a good dinner, no dishes to clean up, and to be helping someone at the same time. I like the consistency of it, as well as the simplicity. It is the simple life without Paris Hilton.

Next Saturday we are going to the Draper Labs annual party which is now held in March rather than December because of a weather "event" last year. They decided that no one needed another "holiday" party, so it was rescheduled. It will be held at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts where they are having an exhibit of Ralph Lauren's cars. Just the thing to excite a lot of engineers. Actually I'm looking forward to seeing those cars too, as well as all the other art. Some stuffy Boston reporter asked if cars were art. These are.

It is a rather dressy occasion, and I'm dressing down in black slacks, a new pink blouse which exactly matches a pink hooded lined wool jacket and pink sparkly pin and earrings and yesterday I bought a pink Hobo bag to match. I'm ready and in the pink and looking forward to another "simple" night out with George.

Snow is still coming here, with 3-6" inches expected later this morning. Whatever.

Have a great day.
