The rain has not really started yet. It has been a cloudy cool weekend. We got a lot done yesteday. I took Chicken Divan and a spinach and mandarin orange salad to Dave and baked two cakes for coffee hour today, bought more cakes at the bakery, and made two necklaces. Today is much less busy. George is as usual glued to the Sunday paper but just stopped to give Thunder a nice brushing. She loves/hates it. She is a big part of our mornings, never leaving us more than a room away as she scampers and meows for her breakfast. Thunder is definately a morning cat!
Today we will host the coffee hour and then come home from church and crash for awhile. It was a busy day yesterday and today will be much simpler.

Busy Saturday
I have 15 things on my to do list today. George is outside mowing the lawn. The forecast for Boston is 7 days of rain. Summer will get here eventually, but not any time soon I think. We are going to the grocery store, and then to buy a new lawn chair in a pastel color for me at Linens and Things--$15 with a 20% off coupon. I plan on using it on the deck when I get home from work--if the sun ever shines again. Then we come home to a busy time of baking and cooking in the kitchen.
I am baking two bundt cakes today for coffee hour tomorrow--apricot and lemon, and also cooking meatballs and vermicelli and chicken divan to take to Dave today to help with his anemia. We took lasagna and extra sauce, a banana and oatmeal raisin cookies to him yesterday. I got the recipes off the healthy recipes web site, googleing "food for anemia". Spinach seems to be a key ingredient.
We went to the Sparks craft studio open house for members last night and took George's oatmeal cookies to share. I talked with the new friends I made at the last event and we had fun talking and munching on crackers and cheese and peapods and dip. They had wine and beer and sodas. I am a teetotaler and George rarely has an alcoholic beverage. We enjoyed our diet-cokes. People were laughing about a wine and cheese beading session they had when they took a class in beading charms for wine glasses. I surmise that drinking wine and beading don't really mix that well. I bought some splashy new beads to crochet into a blue and silver necklace. I can't wait to get started on it. Maybe after my 15 item list is done.
Tomorrow we are coffee hosts and I know people look forward to home-made cakes when it is our turn. I think I will take my orchid as the centerpiece. It is still blooming, but is at the end of it's cycle, so I might as well share the wealth. It has been a magnificent creature in our house for months now and I'm sure I'll never get another that is so prolific.
I'm am also the lector at church tomorrow, and I get to read Genesis 1:1 - 2:4, the whole thing: "In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters..." It is really beautiful poetry and I'm looking forward to reading it out loud.

Beading frenzy
I was up at 6:00 a.m. this morning to work on the necklace that is in this picture. I wanted to wear it today because there is an open house at Sparks for members only tonight. I am bringing oatmeal cookies that George made last night. He is taking his son and wife to Logan at noon for their trip to California. They are very excited about this trip and asked for cookies, so George left with a bag for them this morning.
I really love crocheting with wire and I can already see that I am going to run out of beads and money before this fetish if over. Fetish is a little strong. Anyway, I am looking for bead shows in the area where I can get some beads at wholesale prices.
The wire comes in spools of 125 feet, and George figured out with the curves and knots of crochet, I could make thirty feet of necklace with that. I think I am halfway there already.
It has been a busy week. This weekend I am cooking dinners for my friend who is undergoing radiation and is now suffering from anemia. He needs a little home-cookin' to help him feel better. I'm going to to make spaghetti with spinach meatballs tonight and also a chicken divan. I printed out all the foods that help with anemia and gave it to him. He is so tired it is an effort to go to the grocery store, so I am going to call him this morning from work and find out what I can do to help.

Crocheted Wire Necklace
Last night was my crocheting with wire class. There were 10 of us. All the teachers at Sparks are really nice and I met several people who are just as crazy about beading as I am. Because I already knew how to crochet, I got the hang of it really fast. The supplies came with the class, and I chose gold wire and pink beads. I really love the necklace and can't wait to make more. These necklaces sell for $50 in the stores, so I'm happy to know how to make them.
When I got home at 9:00, I found out that George had never had a banana split in his life. So I got out the low fat vanilla, the strawberry fruit spread, the banana, the low calorie chocolate sauce and the low fat cool whip and made us each a banana split. Yes, I know it is not the real thing, but they were very very yummy. I promise to take him out for a real one this summer. How could one go through life without having a banana split?
I'm late for work this morning because it was such a long day and I slept late this morning. So, I'm off.

Partly cloudy. chance of sun
We are in our partly cloudy part of the New England Spring weather. Every year we have several weekends of rain before the sun finally breaks through for the summer. People in New England flock to the Cape in the summer, and sometimes it is even hard to schedule meetings at work because everyone is gone to the "summer" house. I've never had a summer house, and don't want one. It is enough to take care of one house. Or was it me, just the other day, who talked about a cabin in the woods. Gosh it is easy to change our minds.
George had a good time last weekend in the woods. Today he told me it was not an eagle he saw with a fish in it's mouth, but a hawk. So, like Newsweek, I have to retract my story. He is still recovering. The weekend was fun, but hard on him, and the younger guys did a lot more hiking. He likes to think of himself as an outdoorsman because of his years in scouting, but actually, anyone who sits behind a desk in a tie all week has a hard time being Davey Crockett too. I like to fly fish. If I lived where I could do more of it, I would be good at it. But now I am just glad not to snag a tree as I cast and have few hopes of ever catching a fish. Maybe if we buy that cabin in the woods.....
I have a crochet wire class tonight. It is a way of making a necklace by stringing beads onto wire and then crocheting the wire into a lacy necklace. I saw a woman at the Dallas airport wearing a similar necklace and when I asked her about it, she said it was made with fishing line. (Here we go with the outdoor theme again.) It was not as pretty as those made with gold wire. Yesterday Sparks told me that the class is going to cost $20 more because they are providing materials. I can't say I was overjoyed, but I know the class will be interesting and fun. Still $45 for a two hour class is a lot I think. I used Michael's gift certificate that he got me for Mothers Day to pay for tonight's class. Thanks again Mike! I'll have to put my creative hat on at 6:30 tonight.
